This page has been developed to provide information to candidates, Councillors and members of the community regarding the role of Council and of Councillors.
There are seven introductory video modules to Local Government that provide general information, each module is around the 10 to 15 minute mark:
- Understanding Local Government
- Governance and Roles
- Planning, Budgeting and Engagement
- Good Governance and Councillors
- Councillor Conduct and Integrity
- How Council Makes Decisions
- Local Government Oversight
In addition to these modules, over the coming month, additional videos will be added that are specific to the operation of the Huon Valley Council.
These videos will be provided as new Councillor inductions for viewing by them in the lead up to them taking office.
This will allow new councillors to ask questions and reduce the need for dedicated induction workshops allowing the new Council to focus on the work ahead.
Candidates and Councillors are also encouraged to enrol in the Learn to Lead in Local Government learning and development programme for Tasmanian Councils at: www.learntolead.tas.gov.au
Additional information is available from the Local Government Division of Tasmania website: www.dpac.tas.gov.au/government-information/local-government and the Local Government Association of Tasmania website www.lgat.tas.gov.au
