Huon Valley Welcomes New Citizens

The Huon Valley community welcomed its newest Australian citizens at an official ceremony in the Huonville Town Hall on Thursday.

The ceremony saw family and friends, Acting Mayor Sally Doyle, Deputy Mayor Sue Clark, Huon Valley Council General Manager Jason Browne, Senator Catryna Bilyk, Senator Jonathan Duniam, Jacquie Petrusma MP, Nic Street MP, David O’Byrne MP, Dean Harriss MLC and Dr Timothy Ault welcome the eight new Australian citizens. Due to being unwell, Hon Julie Collins could not attend.

The Song Room project arranged an uplifting performance during the ceremony, bringing along a singing group from Glen Huon Primary School who sung their hearts out with Waltzing Matilda.

The conferees were: Wanran Feng from China, Chun-Hung Lin from Taiwan, Stavros Roumpakis from Greece, Sonia-Ruxandra Serbanescu from Romania, Tiancheng Shen from China and Joy Wilma Villegas-Pook from the Philippines.

The Huon Valley region has a long history of welcoming people from all over the world. By choosing to call the Huon Valley home, our newest citizens make a significant contribution in making our community the vibrant, healthy, resilient, and culturally rich place for which we are known.

The citizens were presented with a 2022 Australian Citizenship coin and small gift.
