Nicholls Rivulet nurse Esther Treadaway has been awarded the 2026 Greg Norris Memorial Health Scholarship, receiving $5,000 to support her studies towards becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
Mayor Sally Doyle congratulated Esther on the achievement. “Esther’s dedication to our local community really shone through in her application. She’s already caring for Huon Valley families in her current role, and it’s clear her heart is here for the long term. This scholarship will help her build on that commitment, bringing even more accessible healthcare to the people who need it most, right here at home.”
Esther is undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation) through the University of Tasmania’s Nurse Practitioner endorsement pathway, with a focus on perinatal and infant mental health, lactation, and women’s health. Currently the Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Lactation Service at the Royal Hobart Hospital, in addition to supporting families through her private practice ALKA Health, Esther is already a well-established practitioner in the Huon Valley community.
Six applications were received for the 2026 scholarship round, assessed against financial need, community benefit, aspiration to remain in the Huon Valley, and commitment to culturally safe practice. The Assessment Panel was unanimous in recommending Esther, citing her established connection to the Huon Valley and her focus on high-need areas including perinatal mental health and infant and family health. The scholarship, established in 2014 in honour of former Mayor Greg Norris, supports Huon Valley residents studying in medicine, nursing or allied health each year. The $5,000 will be paid in two instalments, with the first available following successful completion of Esther’s Semester 1 units later this year.
