The countdown is over – Huonville Pool re-opens to the general public on Saturday 7 November, ready for another summer of swimming, sunshine and community connection.
To kick off the season, entry will be free all day, and the whole community is invited to come along, take a dip and enjoy a day out at the pool.
Alongside the classic hot chips and icy poles from the much-loved pool kiosk, Que Sera Sera’s mobile van will be serving up coffee, and local food trucks will be on site to keep everyone fuelled between swims.
Mayor Sally Doyle said opening day is a celebration of one of the Valley’s favourite summer spaces.
“Huonville Pool is where so many of our kids learn to swim, where families spend long summer afternoons, and where neighbours catch up,” Mayor Doyle said. “Our pools and sports facilities play a vital role in the wellbeing of our community, providing safe, accessible and welcoming places for people of all ages to stay active and connected.”
Whether you’re just starting out or keen to build confidence in the water, there’s a swim program to suit everyone at Huonville Pool. Dates for this summer’s swimming intensives will be available on Council’s website soon, along with details of after-school programs and enrolment forms: huonvalley.tas.gov.au/facility/huonville-swimming-pool
Council has also brought its sport and aquatic centre Facebook pages together into one page for Council recreation in the Huon Valley, now called Huon Valley Sports and Aquatic Centres. If you already follow the Port Huon Sports Centre page, you don’t need to do anything, as that page has been renamed. If you follow the Huonville Pool or Cygnet Sports Centre pages, head over to Huon Valley Sports and Aquatic Centres and hit follow to get updates and the latest news from all our centres in one place: facebook.com/huonvalleysportscentres
“Learning to swim is one of the most valuable skills we can give our children, and having high-quality facilities close to home makes that possible,” Mayor Doyle said. “I’d love to see as many people as possible come down on Saturday, grab a coffee or some hot chips, and help us welcome in the new season.”
