Conditions of Entry
Huon Valley Council Aquatic Facilities
Conditions of Entry — Huonville Pool & Port Huon Centre
By entering a Huon Valley Council swimming pool facility (“the Pool”), including Huonville Pool and Port Huon Centre, you agree to abide by the following Conditions of Entry. Patrons who do not observe these Conditions may be asked to leave the premises. These Conditions of Entry are subject to change, and it is your responsibility to be aware of the current rules displayed at the Pool.
General Conduct
- Pay attention to signage displayed around the Pool, which forms part of the Pool’s rules.
- Follow all instructions given by lifeguards and Pool staff at all times, including during emergencies or evacuations.
- Take reasonable care of yourself and your belongings. You are responsible for your own safety and personal property; the Pool does not accept liability for injury, loss, or damage to persons or property, except as required by law.
- Verbal or physical abuse directed at staff or other patrons will not be tolerated and will be reported to the police.
- Comply with all Pool requirements and staff directions.
- Pool management may refuse entry to, or evict, a person whose behaviour may compromise the health, safety, well-being, or enjoyment of other patrons or staff.
Respecting the Comfort, Privacy and Modesty of All Users
The Pool is a shared community space used by people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and abilities. All patrons must behave in a manner that respects the comfort, privacy and modesty of others at all times — including in change rooms, showers, on the pool deck, and in the sauna/steam room.
- Photography, filming and recording of other patrons is not permitted anywhere within the facility, including change rooms, the pool deck, showers and the sauna/steam room. This is a blanket rule and applies regardless of whether another patron consents.
- Change rooms, showers and toilets must only be used for their intended purpose. Patrons should dress and undress with due regard for the privacy of others, using cubicles or screened areas as appropriate.
- Staring, unwelcome comments, unwelcome physical contact, or any other conduct that may cause another patron to feel uncomfortable, harassed or unsafe will not be tolerated, anywhere on the premises.
- Patrons should be mindful of noise, language and behaviour that may disturb or offend others, including families and children.
- Swimwear and clothing must provide reasonable coverage and must not be sheer, see-through when wet, or otherwise likely to cause embarrassment to the wearer or other patrons.
- Children over the age of 10 should use their gendered change room or, alternatively, an accessible/family change room.
- Patrons requiring assistance with dressing, showering or personal care may use the accessible change room to support their privacy and dignity.
- Mobile phones, cameras and video cameras are not permitted in any change room.
CCTV and Public Safety Cameras
Public safety cameras operate at this facility. By entering and using the facility you consent to Huon Valley Council recording and using footage from these cameras to support the safety of patrons and staff, and to provide footage to Tasmania Police for investigation purposes where required.
Cameras record vision only and do not operate in change rooms, showers, toilets or the sauna/steam room. Requests for footage are handled in accordance with Council’s CCTV Policy and applicable privacy and right to information law.
This clause is in addition to, and does not affect, the existing restrictions in this document on patrons’ own use of mobile phones, cameras and video cameras in change rooms and the sauna/steam room.
Sauna & Steam Room Etiquette
- No photography, filming or recording of any kind is permitted in the sauna or steam room.
- A towel must be worn or sat on at all times for hygiene reasons.
- Please keep conversation to a low volume and be mindful that others may be using the space to relax quietly.
- Do not adjust heat, water, or other controls without checking that this is acceptable to other patrons present.
- Avoid prolonged staring, unsolicited conversation, or crowding another patron’s space — the sauna is a shared, close-proximity environment and mutual respect is essential.
- Council may ask any patron whose behaviour breaches this section to modify their conduct or leave the facility.
Supervision of Children
Parents and guardians are responsible for the safety and supervision of their children and dependants while at the Pool. Groups or families will not be permitted entry where these minimum requirements cannot be met:
| Age Group | Requirement | Max Ratio |
| 0–5 years / non-swimmers | Accompanied in the water, within arm’s reach of a responsible person aged 16+ | 2 children per supervisor |
| 6–10 years / weak swimmers | Accompanied by a responsible person aged 16+, who stays close and maintains constant visual contact | 4 children per supervisor |
| 11–14 years | If accompanied by an adult, that adult must maintain visual contact and check on them regularly | — |
| 15 years and over | May enter and swim unsupervised | — |
A responsible person supervising a 0–5 year old must be prepared to swim at all times the child is in the water, and cannot simultaneously act as the responsible person for a 6–10 year old group.
Council reserves the right to require in-water supervision for any patron, regardless of age, based on their ability to swim safely and independently.
Unsupervised children of any age assessed as poor swimmers, and all unsupervised children under 5 regardless of ability, will be removed from the water by a lifeguard or authorised staff member and placed in a safe area until collected by a parent or guardian.
Entry Fees
- Entry requires payment of the prescribed entry fee, which applies to all persons, including non-swimmers.
- Concession rates are available on presentation of a valid government-issued concession or full-time student card at the time of entry.
- Any person refused entry to, or evicted from, the Pool has no right to a refund of admission fees paid, and refund requests will be refused.
General Pool Rules
- Smoking is prohibited within the Pool grounds and within 4 metres of any entrance or air intake vent.
- Alcohol is not to be brought into or consumed at the Pool. Anyone suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be declined entry or asked to leave.
- Glass, ceramic or other breakable containers are not permitted at the Pool.
- All litter is to be placed in the bins provided.
- Pool Management may close a pool, or part of a facility, at any time without compensation being payable.
- Pool Management may lease, hire, or make available any part of the Pool for exclusive use, on terms it deems appropriate.
- Children over the age of 10 are not permitted into the change room of the opposite gender (see also the age-10 gendered/accessible change room guidance above).
- Accessible change rooms are reserved for people with a disability, parents/guardians accompanying children of the opposite gender over 5, and patrons requiring assistance with dressing, showering or personal care.
Swimwear & Attire
- Appropriate, clean and suitable swimming attire is required for entry to the water.
- Waterproof swim nappies are required for all non-toilet-trained children using the pools.
Food & Drink
- Food and drink are available for purchase at the kiosk (where applicable).
- Food and drink must not be consumed within change room areas or in the pools.
Safety, Incidents & First Aid
- If you are injured at the Pool, staff will assist you — please report the incident to a lifeguard or staff member.
- If first aid is required, you must provide your contact details and complete an incident report form. Staff reserve the right to seek medical attention on a patron’s behalf if believed necessary.
Lost, Misplaced or Stolen Property
The Pool assumes no responsibility for losses relating to any misplaced, lost or stolen property.
Pool Damage
Any patron who wilfully or negligently damages Pool property will be liable for the cost of that damage. Patrons are also responsible for damage caused by their guests and children.
