Huonville CCTV Project

Inform

The Huonville Skate Park and the larger Huonville Recreation Ground have been the site of repeated criminal acts in recent years including incidents of burglaries, vandalism, assaults and illicit drug usage. The Skate Park has developed a particularly negative reputation due to acts of anti-social behaviour and unfortunately this behaviour deters people from utilising the space to its full potential. Council incurs significant costs on rectifying vandalism per annum and is actively taking steps to address this matter with strategies to improve community safety.

The proposed network of new CCTV cameras will be installed in hot spots for offences identified by Council in conjunction with Tasmania Police.  The hot spots are as follows:

  • Huonville Bridge
  • Huon Valley Council Depot
  • Huonville Roundabout
  • Huonville Skate Park
  • Heron Street/Main Road Junction

The CCTV network will provide social and financial benefits for the Huonville community and businesses through a reduction in anti-social behaviour and crime in the area, which results in safer and more active public spaces.

Funding for this project has been secured from the Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Projects Grant and Bendigo Bank.
