Speed Limit Change Review

Huon Highway, south of Huonville

The Department of State Growth is reviewing the current speed limit on the Huon Highway to the south of Huonville.

The Department of State Growth is applying to the Commissioner for Transport to reduce the speed limit from 100 to 80 km/h for about 1.8 km on the Huon Highway, from south of Huonville to south of the Waste Transfer Station.

Following a crash at the Waste Transfer Station in January 2018, Huon Valley Council and local residents have advocated for a reduced speed limit along the Huon Highway near the Waste Transfer Station.

There have been eight reported crashes on this section of road in the last five years.  Research tells us that even small reductions of 10 km/h in travelling speeds can lead to a 25 percent reduction in serious casualties.

Once the Commissioner for Transport has reviewed the speed limit change, the outcome will be published on www.transport.tas.gov.au
