Text reads Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy over a background of blue sky and distant hills.

The Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy 2026 (STRLUS) is now in effect, following its declaration by the Tasmanian Government on 11 September 2026. It replaces the STRLUS 2010-2035, which was first declared in October 2011.

The STRLUS guides strategic land use and development in the Southern Tasmania region.

What does this mean for the Huon Valley?

For the Huon Valley, the STRLUS provides an important strategic framework for planning and land use decisions.

Huon Valley’s Local Provisions Schedule must be consistent with, and informed by, the STRLUS.

Planning scheme amendments, including proposals to change the zone or code applying to a property, must consider how the proposed change aligns with the relevant regional strategies in the STRLUS.
