Tall wild grasses and various wildflowers grow densely in the foreground, with a blurred wooden structure visible in the background. The scene looks natural and untamed.

Council’s annual Rural Roadside Spray Program is set to begin in spring, weather permitting.

We manage roadside vegetation across the Huon Valley’s 700km road network to keep our community safe and our roadsides tidy and sustainable. This includes regular mowing, pruning and targeted herbicide spraying.

The best way to avoid having your frontage sprayed is to keep it well maintained. The standard to meet is:

  • grass and weeds kept under 200mm in height
  • maintained for 2m out from the road shoulder, or to the property’s boundary line or fence where it is closer than 2m from the shoulder

Frontages outside this standard may be sprayed.

The purpose of roadside spraying is to support:

  • reduced fire hazards
  • improved visibility for drivers
  • effective drainage during wet weather
