Partners sought for Huonville greenspace redevelopment

The Huon Valley Council is excited to release a concept design for the redevelopment of the greenspace located at the Huon Valley Hub at 23–25 Main Street, Huonville.

You can view the design, developed by local designer Outlook Concepts, on the Council website at (under the May 2021 tab).

“We want to see the greenspace transform into a beautiful, flexible and comfortable outdoor space for casual everyday use as well as for events,” said Huon Valley Council Mayor Bec Enders.

“Council is looking for project partners to help further shape the concept design and make it a reality.”

We want the greenspace to acknowledge the original owners of our land and celebrate Aboriginal culture and stories

The design responds to feedback from the community gathered through our recent survey on the Huon Valley Hub, as well as ideas and desires we heard from our community through the Huonville Town Team Movement and through general discussions.

“Importantly, we want the greenspace to acknowledge the original owners of our land and celebrate Aboriginal culture and stories, so the design incorporates features based on conversations we have had with our local Aboriginal people and groups,” said Cr Enders.

Currently, the concept includes:

  • A mural of swans in flight over the Huon River, developed by local street artist Jamin in conversation with Aboriginal Elder Rodney Dillon
  • Timber sculptural seating with embedded USB ports
  • A timber deck that doubles as a performance stage
  • A spot for mobile exhibition space ARTBOX, with shade sails
  • New landscaping, including a native garden, lawn, more silver birches and uplights
  • A giant chess set
  • Possibility of a projection area on the wall

“This year we were fortunate to receive grant funding from the Tasmanian Community Fund for several upgrades to the Huon Valley Hub, including landscaping for the greenspace,” said Cr Enders.

“But we need extra resources to build the greenspace that we know our community wants and will make excellent use of.

“The design is still at conceptual stage and is open for further shaping and adjustment. If your local community group or business is interested in partnering with us to redevelop the greenspace, please get in touch with our Community Services team on (03) 6264 0300 or by emailing

“Your donation or sponsorship is appreciated and will be publicly recognised.”
