We are delighted to welcome Dr Tim Andrewartha to the Huon Valley Council Medical Services team in an ongoing capacity.

Dr Andrewartha is no stranger to the Valley — he has been working with us in a locum capacity and, having gotten to know our team and community, has decided to make it official.

A Tasmanian through and through, Dr Andrewartha has returned to the South of the state after nine years working in Northwest Tasmania and says it was the appeal of small-town primary care that drew him here.

In his own words:

“On my return home to the South of Tasmania, I wanted to find a medical service that supports my enjoyment of small-town primary care. I enjoy a wide range of rural medicine — if I had to choose, my main areas of interest would be cardiovascular disease and heart failure management, diabetes care, and palliative care, which was also a significant area of my practice in Northwest Tasmania.”

Dr Andrewartha joins a growing team that now includes four new doctors welcomed to Huon Valley Council Medical Services this financial year alone — a remarkable achievement for a regional health service and a testament to the hard work of Council and medical leadership in attracting and retaining quality practitioners to the Valley.

Dr Andrewartha’s arrival caps off an extraordinary year for Huon Valley Medical Services. During May, our services surpassed 20,000 appointments for the 2025–26 financial year. This milestone reflects the dedication of our entire medical team and the trust the community places in local healthcare. It is a number worth celebrating.
