There was no shortage of smiles and laughter in the Huon Valley this Easter, as the region’s youngest community members went above and beyond to bring some holiday cheer to local aged care residents.
Huon Valley Council Mayor Sally Doyle brought together local schools, childcare centres and playgroups for a heartwarming Easter initiative — and the results were nothing short of magical.
Students from Franklin Primary School, along with children from Huon Valley Council’s Dover and Geeveston childcare centres, got to work crafting more than 100 Easter baskets, each lovingly filled with chocolate eggs and delivered in person to residents at Huon Regional Care facilities in Franklin and Dover.
The visits were a hit on both sides, with Huon Regional Care staff reporting the children “brought so much joy to our residents” in what was described as “a meaningful experience for everyone involved.”
Mayor Sally Doyle said it was wonderful to see the region’s youngest community members showing such kindness. “These connections between generations are incredibly special and reflect the caring spirit that makes the Huon Valley such a wonderful place to live,” Mayor Doyle said.
Franklin Primary School spokesperson echoed this sentiment. “It’s really important to us to be able to give back to our community, and we hope to be able to make more connections like this as it would really benefit everyone involved,” the spokesperson said.
Huon Valley Council extends its sincere thanks to all students, teachers, families and playgroup members who made these Easter visits so special and looks forward to building on this initiative for future holiday connections.
