Applications for the 2026–27 Community Liveability Fund are now open, with $37,300 available for projects that strengthen the social, cultural, environmental or economic wellbeing of our region.
The Fund supports a wide range of projects, from community and creative initiatives to environmental work and research into climate adaptation and resilience right here in the Huon Valley.
Individuals, community groups, organisations and businesses are all encouraged to apply.
Huon Valley Mayor Sally Doyle said the Fund was about backing the people who already make the Valley such a special place.
“Some of the best ideas in the Huon Valley don’t come from Council – they come from the people who live here, who know their patch and care deeply about it,” Mayor Doyle said.
“This Fund is our way of saying: we see what you’re doing, and we want to help you do more of it. Whether it’s caring for a creek, bringing people together, or finding new ways to tackle a local challenge, a small grant can make a really big difference.”
Projects supported in the last grant round included creek monitoring, women’s health workshops, transport research and youth activities – the Huon Valley is full of people with great ideas, and Council wants to help bring the next wave of them to life.
Current Fund recipient, Huon Women’s Health Collective is delivering a six-part workshop series, connecting women across the valley with evidence-informed education on mental health, perimenopause and menopause, healthy ageing and pelvic health.
Collective Secretary Lucinda Molloy said the grant had made a real difference.
“This grant has enabled passionate and qualified local practitioners in their mission to bring holistic health information to women and people of the Valley,” Ms Molloy said.
“We would encourage anyone else who has a good idea to apply for the Community Liveability Fund. Our community knows what’s working, what’s not, and how to make our region more liveable.
“Having Council’s support to back these projects and ideas is both validating and collaborative. We all love this place and want our region to thrive, and we can all play a part in that.”
Two types of grants are available:
- Minor Grants of up to $3,000 (plus GST if applicable)
- Major Grants of $3,001 to $10,000 (plus GST if applicable), for exceptional projects that show substantial community benefit, innovation and alignment with multiple liveability attributes
Applications close: 5pm, Monday 14 December 2026
