About Council retirement villages

The Huon Valley Council owns self-contained cottages in Cygnet, Geeveston and Dover. These cottages provide the opportunity for residents to maintain their independence without the inconvenience of maintaining a property or the uncertainty of the private rental market.

Cottages are within walking distance to all services including post office, supermarkets, banks, chemist, doctors and libraries.

Eligibility

These cottages are available to eligible independent residents aged 55 years and over. A retired person means a person who has attained 55 years of age and retired from full-time employment.

Rental information

The cottages are leased under the Retirement Villages Act 2004. The rental amount the tenant will pay includes any maintenance required relating to electrical, plumbing and building faults. There are also separate contractors who maintain the lawns, clean the gutters, service heat pumps and undertake pest control.
