From record medical appointments to award-winning projects, Huon Valley Council invites the community to come together and celebrate a big year for the Valley at a community forum on Sunday 22 November at Council Chambers from 2pm.

The forum marks the release of the Draft Annual Report 2025–2026, which shows a year of record service delivery, major funding wins and state-leading innovations across the Huon Valley.

Highlights from the year include:

  • Completing 100% of Council’s capital works program, including major stormwater upgrades and new changerooms at the Port Huon Sports and Aquatic Centre
  • A record 23,677 appointments at Huon Valley Medical Services, with all eligible services bulk billed, and the launch of the Valley’s first Women’s Health Clinic
  • Securing $4.7 million from the Australian Government for Huonville Reimagined and confirming $10 million to build the Huonville Early Childhood Education and Care Centre
  • Developing and launching Tasmania’s first AI-powered digital Planning Portal
  • Council’s Liveability Framework – a community centred decision-making framework – won the Showcasing Innovation Award at the LGAT Awards for Excellence
  • Major community engagement initiatives on the Draft Cygnet Township Structure Plan, where Council engaged with 770 residents, including 300 students.

The forum is a chance to celebrate these achievements, hear more about the report and ask questions of Councillors and Council staff. Everyone is welcome.

The draft report is now open for community feedback on Engage Huon Valley until midnight Tuesday 1 December. It includes five case studies, from welcoming Pacific Islander workers to the Huon Valley Studio Art Trail, that show how Council programs and community collaboration have made a difference across the Valley.

Retiring Mayor Sally Doyle said she was proud of what Council and the community have achieved together.

“We work so hard that we sometimes forget to stop and celebrate our wins. This report reflects the work we have delivered together, and I encourage everyone to read it and come along to the forum to hear more and ask questions,” Mayor Doyle said.

Can’t make the forum? You can still share your feedback on the draft report online. Feedback received before the forum will be collated and presented for discussion.

The final report will be presented at Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 9 December 2026 at Council Chambers from 6pm. The AGM is held each year and gives community members the chance to raise matters with Council by submitting a motion.

Anyone can submit a motion for consideration at the AGM. A motion template and guide are available on the Engage Huon Valley page to help people through the process. Motions must be received by midnight Tuesday 1 December. The community forum will also cover how to prepare and submit a motion.
