15 new citizens welcomed to the Huon Valley

It was a heart-warming occasion, with friends and family filling the Huonville Town Hall to join together and celebrate Huon Valley’s newest citizens.

To officially welcome the conferees, Huon Valley Mayor Sally Doyle was joined at the ceremony by General Manager Jason Browne, Senator Catryna Bilyk, Dean Young MP, Dr Rosalie Woodruff MP, David O’Byrne MP, Dean Winter MP, and Dean Harriss MLC.

After a welcome by General Manager Jason Browne, Senator Catryna Bilyk read out the letter of welcome, on behalf of the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, the honourable Andrew Giles MP. Mayor Sally Doyle then lead the conferees through the Oath and Affirmation and officially congratulated each conferee on becoming an Australian citizen.

In commemoration of this important day, the citizens were presented with their certificate of citizenship, a 2023 Australian Citizenship coin and an Australian native plant.

Our newest citizens represent seven different countries around the world, including Taiwan, Britain, People’s Republic of China, Canada, United States of America, Brazil and South Africa.

“Thank you for choosing to call the Huon Valley your home, contributing to making the Huon a positive and enriching place to live,” said Mayor Sally Doyle.
