On Monday, 24 November 2025, contractors began major accessibility and changeroom upgrades at the Port Huon Sports and Aquatic Centre.
What’s being delivered
The works will provide modern, welcoming facilities for all users, including:
- Fully compliant accessible toilets and showers
- Two new family changerooms
- An upgraded sauna
- A new ceiling in the hallway leading to the bathrooms to help keep the area warm and cosy
- A refreshed upstairs fitness room, therapy room and hot desk space
Why we’re doing this
This project is part of Council’s ongoing investment in high-quality, inclusive community infrastructure across the Huon Valley—supporting active participation for people of all ages and abilities.
Funding
This project is jointly funded by Huon Valley Council and a grant through the Department of State Growth’s 2023–24 Tasmanian Active Infrastructure Grants Program — Large Stream, with thanks to Member for Franklin, Hon Jacquie Petrusma MP for her support in getting this project off the ground.
Timing
- Expected completion: late July 2026
Temporary closures and access during works
To allow works to be completed safely and efficiently:
- The sauna and existing toilet and changeroom areas inside the Centre are closed from 24 November 2025 until the project is finished.
- Portable toilets (including an accessible toilet) are available outside the Centre.
- The pool will remain open throughout the works.
Using other facilities
- Where possible, swimmers are encouraged to use the Huonville Pool while works are underway.
- All current Port Huon pool memberships will be valid at the Huonville Pool for the duration of the project.
Stay informed
We appreciate the community’s patience and look forward to welcoming everyone back to enjoy the upgraded facilities in early 2026. Further updates (including progress photos) will be shared on this page and on social media as works continue.
