Overview
The Roundhouses are, literally, just that — round buildings made with natural materials including strawbale, timbers, and lime render, designed to be truly environmentally sustainable. Small, fully equipped homes, they are cool in summer, warm in winter, and offer stunning views down the valley towards Cygnet.
The roundhouses go well beyond the odd LED lightbulb, using local and natural materials, local timbers, local artisans, and minimal plastics. They feature under-slab insulation, thick straw walls, double-glazed windows, and underfloor heating, with the round shape itself contributing to the eco-design. Architecturally designed, the roundhouses have achieved an exceptional energy rating. Guests can operate remote-controlled electric blinds from bed to watch the morning sunrise, and unwind in the evening with a glass of wine by the log burner.
Each roundhouse is furnished with high-quality wooden furniture, including a king-sized bed and luxury soft furnishings from Liberty of London, Studio G, and Canningvale. A wood-fired hot tub is available on site, bookable as a spa experience with pre-heated water, bath robes, towels, and a herbal and salt bath teabag provided.
The roundhouses sit on a small hobby farm. The property aims for no single-use plastics, recycling everything possible and composting on site, along with farm-fresh eggs and firewood supplied from its own bushland. Carbon use is limited by sourcing most things locally — no single-use jams, butters or similar items are provided, eggs come freshly from the resident free-range organic chickens, and jam jars are reused on site. Zero Co dishwashing and laundry cleaners are used, and all linens are line-dried.
The roundhouse accommodates families or groups, with a king-sized bed for parents and a bunk room for children, along with a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, dishwasher, espresso machine) and an outdoor BBQ and dining area with roll-down weather blinds.
