Exciting news for the Port Huon community – works are about to begin on a brand-new floating pontoon at Shipwrights Point.
From Friday, 28 November 2025, specialist contractors Bellingham Marine Australia will begin construction on the new structure, which will provide a safe and accessible spot for both local fishers and visiting boaters.
The project is part of Council’s ongoing investment in recreational and marine infrastructure across the Huon Valley, supporting community recreation and tourism at one of the region’s most popular foreshore areas.
The new pontoon will replace the original timber jetty, which unfortunately collapsed in February 2022. Once complete (anticipated before Christmas 2025, weather permitting) the pontoon will offer a fantastic new space for fishing, launching, and enjoying the water.
To allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently, the foreshore area at Shipwrights Point Regatta Ground will be closed to public access and fishing from Friday until the project is finished.
We appreciate the community’s support and patience while this exciting upgrade takes shape and look forward to welcoming everyone back to enjoy the new pontoon before the end of the year.
