Dirt road surrounded by lush greenery, leading to a scenic view of a lake and distant hills under a cloudy sky. Tall trees frame the foreground, and rolling fields stretch towards the water.

Welcome to

the Huon Valley

The Huon Valley Council is the southernmost local government area in Australia. The main townships are Huonville, Franklin, Cygnet, Geeveston and Dover.
A zebra crossing leads to a brick building with a sign above the entrance. Several cars are parked along the street, and two people are walking on the sidewalk. The sky is clear and blue.

Cygnet safety
designs ready

Council has released safety upgrade designs featuring improved parking, pedestrian crossings and road changes. View them online or in person at upcoming community sessions.
A table displays framed volunteer award certificates and several wrapped gifts in orange and brown paper, all prepared for a recognition event.

313 years of
service honoured

The 2026 Community Achievement Awards celebrated local volunteers who make the Huon Valley a better place. Two new awards recognised outstanding young and community volunteers.
A group of adults sit in a circle of chairs in a well-lit hall with wooden floors, red curtains, and a stage in the background, engaged in a discussion or meeting.

Community Forums
coming

Council is visiting communities across the valley to hear from residents. Three forums are planned in Dover, Geeveston and Franklin — RSVP now to have your say.
Aerial view of a small town with red-roofed buildings, green fields, trees, winding roads, and a river with moored boats in the background, under a blue sky with light clouds.

Cygnet's future:
have your say

The draft Cygnet Structure Plan is open for feedback. Shaped by 770 community voices, it outlines Cygnet's next 20 years. Complete the survey by 7 June or visit a drop-in session.
