From Monday, 16 February 2026, Council will undertake essential stormwater infrastructure upgrades in Port Huon. This project is part of Council’s commitment to protecting the community from flooding and enhancing drainage capacity across the region.

Project background

Following significant flooding events in 2022 that affected areas of the Huon Valley, including the Port View Drive subdivision in Port Huon, Council engaged specialist engineers to investigate and model the affected catchments. The resulting reports identified mitigation options to reduce future flooding risk.

About the works

The project involves upgrading stormwater infrastructure along Port View Drive with larger capacity pipes than the existing system. The new design generally follows the existing pipeline alignment, with strategic deviations to minimise construction impacts on nearby residential properties.

The upgraded system is designed to manage severe weather events (5% AEP – 1 in 20 year storm) and significantly reduce future flooding damage to homes and properties in the area.

Construction update – Friday 27 February 2026

Works are underway on the Port Huon Stormwater Upgrades project at Port View Drive, Port Huon.

Our contractor will be undertaking a road crossing at Port View Drive on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 March. Commuters should allow for slight traffic delays during this time.
