On Monday, 24 November 2025, contractors began major accessibility and changeroom upgrades at the Port Huon Sports and Aquatic Centre.

What’s being delivered

The works will provide modern, welcoming facilities for all users, including:

  • Fully compliant accessible toilets and showers
  • Two new family changerooms
  • An upgraded sauna
  • A new ceiling in the hallway leading to the bathrooms to help keep the area warm and cosy

Why we’re doing this

This project is part of Council’s ongoing investment in high-quality, inclusive community infrastructure across the Huon Valley—supporting active participation for people of all ages and abilities.

Timing

  • Expected completion: late March 2026 (weather permitting)

Temporary closures and access during works

To allow works to be completed safely and efficiently:

  • The sauna and existing toilet and changeroom areas inside the Centre are closed from 24 November 2025 until the project is finished.
  • Portable toilets (including an accessible toilet) are available outside the Centre.
  • The pool will remain open throughout the works.

Using other facilities

  • Where possible, swimmers are encouraged to use the Huonville Pool while works are underway.
  • All current Port Huon pool memberships will be valid at the Huonville Pool for the duration of the project.

Update (9 January 2026)

Works are now well and truly underway at the Port Huon Sports and Aquatic Centre. Our hardworking contractors have been busy stripping out the toilets, change rooms and sauna back to the bare bones, getting everything ready for brand-new interiors, fittings and fixture
