A new statewide initiative aimed at reducing litter and encouraging recycling is launching Wednesday 1 May 2025 – and the Huon Valley community is invited to get involved.
Recycle Rewards is Tasmania’s Container Refund Scheme, offering 10 cents back for each eligible drink.
It’s a simple way for individuals, families, community groups and businesses to help reduce litter, protect the environment, and earn rewards in the process.
Starting from tomorrow Recycle Rewards have set up two collection points in the Huon Valley. The current set ups are temporary with larger facilities and extended hours planned in the future.
Huonville
Where: Sparkles Car Wash – 133 Main Street – ‘Mobile Collection Point’ will operate from the car park
Opening hours: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:30am to 2:30pm
The Recycle Rewards mobile app will need to be downloaded and set up to return containers at this location.
Dover
Where: Dover Community Workshop – 17 Chapman Avenue (Dover Men’s Shed) – automated Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) will operate from within the shed
Opening hours: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm
You are encouraged to download the ‘Recycle Rewards’ mobile app (available for iPhone and Android). The app contains an interactive map of the container refund locations, their different types and most importantly, their operating hours (which can vary). It is a really easy app to use and can seamlessly track refund payments, digital vouchers and charity donations.
