In relation to the national response to coloured sand products, all Huon Valley Children’s Services childcare centres remain open having been rendered safe on Monday 17 November.
The sand products in question have not been used at our Dover, Geeveston or Huonville Cottage childcare centres.
The sand products were used as part of outdoor play at our Huonville outside school hours program during the last school holidays and some residual sand was identified on a grassed area. Unused and unopened containers of the products were also present at the Huonville Cottage centre.
We have followed WorkSafe advice and had qualified personnel cleanup and dispose of the products on Monday 17 November.
The advice from the Federal Department of Health is that the health risk is low, that respirable asbestos fibres have not been detected and there is no need for medical assessment for anyone who may have been in contact with these products.
