We know many people are understandably worried about long grass on roadsides, especially with fire risk this time of year. Despite the wetter conditions in late 2025 and then warm days that have led to an exceptional growing season, we’ve been working hard to get the roadside slashing done across the municipality.
We currently have three mowers out working across the Huon Valley. Our crews are moving area by area, finishing each section before heading to the next so nothing is missed.
Because the grass and vegetation have grown so quickly this season, it’s taking longer than usual to get through all roads. We’re doing our best to catch up and will keep working until roadside slashing is complete across the valley.
At this stage, we can’t provide set dates for individual roads, but please be assured the program is ongoing.
Residents can also help reduce risk by keeping adjoining property maintained, which can act as a fire break and improve safety for the whole community.
