The Huonville community has reached a major sustainability milestone, with the local Recycle Rewards refund point surpassing one million containers returned since the scheme launched earlier this year.
Located at Sparkles Car Wash on Main Street, the Huonville site continues to grow in popularity, averaging more than 7,000 containers returned each day. Residents have enthusiastically embraced the 10‑cent refund program — helping reduce litter, cut waste, and support local causes.
Across the Valley, Dover’s refund point has also recorded strong results, with 125,000 containers returned so far and community participation steadily rising. One dedicated local has even returned more than 15,000 containers on their own!

Recycling that gives back
Recycle Rewards doesn’t just help the environment — it also helps local community organisations. Every 10‑cent refund can be directed to a nominated Donation Partner, supporting charities, clubs and volunteer groups across Tasmania.
The Huonville Scouts are one of the few groups benefiting from community donations through the refund machine. The Scouts recently visited the site to see how container donations are helping fund their activities — proving that recycling truly gives back.

Donations can be made directly at the refund point or through the Recycle Rewards app, where users can find their nearest site and select a local Donation Partner.
Huonville’s one‑million‑container achievement shows what’s possible when the community comes together for a cleaner, greener future.
