Huon Valley Council is thrilled to announce an expansion of healthcare services for the Geeveston community, with Geeveston Medical Clinic increasing to three days per week — a major milestone after considerable planning and dedication.
Mayor Sally Doyle said: “This is genuinely exciting news for Geeveston. While it was a difficult decision to reduce our services previously, we’ve worked tirelessly to attract the staff to get to where we are now. Our residents deserve accessible medical care, and this expanded access will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
Importantly, Huon Valley Medical Services will welcome new GP registrars later this month, significantly strengthening local capacity and supporting the long-term sustainability of services across the Huon Valley.
“This expansion represents our commitment to ensuring the community has sustainable, reliable access to primary healthcare services whilst we continue to advocate for further access to primary health care in the Huon Valley,” Mayor Doyle said.
In further positive news for the community, all Huon Valley Council Medical Service appointments are now bulk-billed, meaning patients can access care without out-of-pocket expenses.
From 3 February 2025, Geeveston Medical Clinic will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week, with opening hours of 8:45 am to 4:45 pm. Dover Medical Clinic will continue to operate five days per week, with no changes to current services.
