Residents are encouraged to take part in a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at Southbridge Waste Transfer Station on Sunday 21 September 2025. The collection is hosted by TasWaste South and offers our community a safe way to dispose of unwanted and potentially harmful chemicals commonly found around the home.

This is a great opportunity to have a spring clean and remove old or unused items such as:

  • Solvents and household cleaners
  • Floor care products
  • Ammonia-based cleaners
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Pool and garden chemicals
  • Vapes
  • Poisons, hobby chemicals, acids and alkalis
  • Farm vet chemicals

The service is free of charge to households. Please note that the collections are for domestic waste only and not for commercial operators.

Some items cannot be accepted, including:

  • Motor oil
  • Asbestos
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Ammunition and explosives
  • Bulk agriculture products
  • Chemicals from commercial businesses

Along with Southbridge Waste Transfer Station, there will also be other collection locations across Hobart over the weekend.
