A group of eight people dressed in black sing from sheet music on stands in a church, standing in a semicircle before an altar with religious statues and candles.

After their debut performance ‘Resounding Light’ in May 2025, Sonus Lux are excited to present their second programme. Under the curation and direction of Quin Thomson, Sonus Lux takes a journey through the interpretations of sacred texts throughout time in perfect symmetrical programming.

Previously performed by VoQ members Madeleine Dyer, Quin Thomson, Alexander Rodrigues, and Matt Anning, this presentation of ‘Sacred Symmetry’ unlocks broadened potential through twice the voices, introducing Grace Ovens, Tess Archer, Sebastian Allen, Simon Milton, and Jonathan Wallis into the aural texture. With quartets, trios, duets, solos, and full tutti works, each of the eight performers take on different roles within each piece, accentuating the individual and ensemble brilliance of Sonus Lux.

‘Sacred Symmetry – Redux’ features polyphonic masterpieces from Byrd, Tallis, and Josquin, and choral favourites from Poulenc, Messiaen, and Duruflé. Contemporary works also make appearances, including Anna Lapwood’s ‘O Nata Lux’ and David Basden’s ‘Salve Regina’, alongside a setting of ‘Pater Noster’ from Sonus Lux’s own Matt Anning. Each work is arranged around Thomson’s ‘Palindrome’ for solo voice.

Sonus Lux will make two performances of this diverse programme, one at the Franklin Palais Theatre on Saturday Dec. 20th and another at St Mary’s Cathedral Hobart on Sunday 21st, both at 2.30pm.
