A diverse group of eight people stand in a row outdoors on grass, smiling and with arms around each others shoulders. Trees are visible in the background under a clear sky.

Learn simple communication skills to help support people in distress.

In everyday life, we may come across people who are struggling emotionally. While many of us want to help, it can be hard to know what to say or do. Lifeline’s Accidental Counsellor workshop gives you practical tools and confidence to offer compassionate support to loved ones, colleagues, or even strangers going through a difficult time.

This workshop won’t qualify you as a professional counsellor, but it will equip you with a structured approach through Lifeline’s Recognise, Respond, Refer, Self-care model:

  • Recognise signs of distress and potential crisis
  • Respond with empathy and supportive communication
  • Refer individuals to appropriate professional support when needed
  • Self-care strategies to help you recover after tough conversations

The session is hands-on and interactive, using group discussions, real-life scenarios, and take-home learning aids. Tea and coffee will be provided.
