Huon Valley Medical Services is proud to celebrate the recent achievement of Dr David Owusu Sekyere, who has been recognised as the 2025 Tasmanian Registrar of the Year by the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

Dr Sekyere, a Rural Generalist registrar based in southern Tasmania, currently provides medical services to the Dover community through Dover Medical Centre, which operates under Huon Valley Council. From November, Dr Sekyere will also be providing services to the Geeveston community.

As part of his ongoing training, every fortnight Dr Sekyere will work in Dover on Mondays and Tuesdays, and in Geeveston on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Originally from Ghana, Dr Sekyere moved to Australia with his wife and four daughters in 2022 and has been an integral part of the local healthcare team since joining Huon Valley Medical Services. His award recognises his leadership, clinical excellence, and the positive impact he continues to make in rural and regional healthcare.

Dr Sekyere divides his time between emergency medicine at the Royal Hobart Hospital and general practice in the Huon Valley, contributing his skills and experience across both settings to deliver quality healthcare to the community.
