In 2025, Council adopted the Liveability Framework – an innovative way of addressing the unique place-based challenges and opportunities of the Huon Valley.

Moving beyond consultation, the Framework focuses on building capacity and capability within the community so residents can work alongside us on what matters most to them and improve the liveability of the Huon Valley.

What this means for you

Understanding what’s most important to our community and places

3. Uses modern engagement tools
Easy ways for you to share views and participate in decisions

Place-based planning

The Huon Valley is a rich tapestry of distinct communities – from coastal villages to rural townships, each with unique needs.

Place-based planning means developing solutions that fit each area’s context while working toward our shared Valley-wide vision.

This approach:

  • Looks beyond immediate wants to long-term needs
  • Ensures local solutions align with broader goals
  • Brings different perspectives together
  • Uses data to support local decision-making
