Council is moving forward with major repairs to Kingfish Beach Road near the Southport Catholic Cemetery, following a significant landslip that occurred last year.

In early June, Council approved an allocation of over $1 million in the 2025/26 budget specifically for landslip remediation works at the site. This represents a significant investment in Southport’s infrastructure and demonstrates our commitment to addressing this long-standing issue.

Since the event, desktop assessments and a comprehensive geotechnical investigation have been completed. The latest round of testing concluded in May 2025, allowing Council to proceed with more detailed on-site surveys and cost estimations for various repair options.

An engineering survey will begin over the winter months, with Council set to review and select the most suitable long-term solution following consideration of all design concepts.

In the interim, the road remains open to single-lane traffic only, with temporary traffic lights managing vehicle flow to ensure public safety. Monitoring of the site will continue throughout the investigation and repair phases.

To improve traffic management and safety while repairs are in progress, new advanced traffic lights with increased capacity and updated technology will be installed in the coming weeks. These lights will also alert Council’s Tech Service team in the event of performance issues.

Council will continue to keep residents and road users updated as the project progresses towards a permanent solution for Kingfish Beach Road. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and patience as works continue.
