Huon Valley Council’s National Tree Day event was a resounding success yesterday, with families and community members coming together to plant 100 native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers in Geeveston on Sunday 27 July.

The morning saw volunteers of all ages gather alongside the Port Huon to Geeveston Walking Track to help restore threatened native vegetation in the area. Despite changeable weather conditions, spirits remained high.

The event demonstrated Huon Valley residents’ strong commitment to the environment. From young children getting their hands dirty for the first time to seasoned green thumbs, the morning truly showcased community spirit.

The plantings, located near Drysdale’s Engineering on the Huon Highway, will provide important habitat for local wildlife whilst enhancing the natural beauty of the walking track area.

The successful event forms part of Council’s ongoing commitment to environmental restoration and community engagement across the Huon Valley.

Residents interested in future community planting events can keep updated through Council’s website and social media channels.
