Council is delighted to announce the successful launch of comprehensive digital records for both Huon Lawn and Dover Lawn cemeteries, making it easier for families to find loved ones, explore their genealogy, and preserve our community’s rich history.
Powered by Chronicle cemetery software, the technology allows people locally and worldwide to easily find information about the cemeteries and those buried there. Key features include:
- Online searchable records
- GPS-navigation to graves on-site
- High-quality drone imagery and GIS mapping
- Interactive cemetery displays
- Comprehensive headstone photo surveys
These improvements not only streamline operations for cemetery staff but also strengthens the preservation of precious community data for generations to come.
“Our cemeteries are places of remembrance, reflection, and community connection,” said Mayor Sally Doyle. “Preserving the history of our cemeteries and the people resting there is important to us. This digital record project allows families to locate and commemorate loved ones much more easily and gives everyone the chance to engage with our shared heritage.”
The digital cemetery records can be accessed online through huonvalley.tas.gov.au/services/cemeteries or by scanning QR codes located at each cemetery.
