A new and creative approach to building community resilience is coming to the Huon Valley. Residents are invited to attend the official launch of The Adaptation Game (TAG) Huon Valley, a board game workshop that helps people explore how their town might respond to climate challenges such as floods, fires and storms.
Huon Valley Acting Mayor Toby Thorpe said the project offers an exciting and positive way to help communities think about the future.
“Many people feel overwhelmed by climate change and uncertain about how it will impact their lives,” Cr Thorpe said. “It can feel really daunting at times, but something powerful happens when we come together as a community – it reminds us that we have incredible strengths, knowledge, and networks that we can use in facing these challenges together.”
“The Adaptation Game creates a playful, cooperative space where people can connect, share ideas and get motivated to act” he said. “By playing together, we can focus on the opportunities in our everyday lives – the things we can do as neighbours and as a community – to build confidence and resilience for the future.”
Developed by Amble Studios, TAG brings climate adaptation and disaster preparedness to life as participants simulate responding to the next ten years of climate change in their community. A Huon Valley edition has been specially made, with local maps and realistic scenarios to ensure the experience resonates with local residents.
TAG Huon Valley will be launched at a workshop in Cygnet, after which anyone can submit an expression of interest to host or participate in TAG.
