Huon Valley Youth Writers’ Group 2024

Learn to write a range of popular styles of fiction in this series of 9 two-hour workshops for young writers (up to age 24). Meet other young writers, make new friends, and explore your own writing in a safe, supportive environment.

These workshops are open to all young writers. For our younger participants, parents are welcome to attend the sessions.

From 10 am to 12 pm on the second Saturday of each month, from March to November (not including July), workshops will include:

  • either a live interview by participants of a guest author or a presentation on the fundamentals of one type of fiction (e.g. fantasy fiction); and
  • a practical exercise to develop one aspect of your stories.

Topics include writing fantasy, crime and mystery, and science fiction and scriptwriting.

  • Saturday 9 March
  • Saturday 13 April
  • Saturday 11 May
  • Saturday 8 June
  • Saturday 10 August
  • Saturday 14 September
  • Saturday 12 October
  • Saturday 9 November

Please email felicity.lemon.tarwf@gmail.com to register your intention to attend the sessions or with any questions.

Please let us know how old you are, if your parent will accompany you, and what type of writing most interests you.

Please note:

  • It is important that all participants are respectful of each other’s writing and interests.
  • No food or drink of any sort is allowed in the room/sessions, apart from water. This is to make the room safe for people with certain allergies.
  • Please do not attend a session if you are unwell.

The program is organised jointly by Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival and Huon Valley Council; and proudly supported by Arts Tasmania and Huonville Library.
