Franklin community compost making and garden installation workshop blitz

Part of the Huon Valley Food Hub Harvest Program 2023

Learn about hot compost making from market gardener and soil health and compost enthusiast Nadia Danti.

Nadia will take everyone through the process of making good hot compost to help set up the Franklin Primary Seed Garden. This is a great opportunity to support your local public school and learn a bunch of useful information to apply at home.

We will also be setting up some new growing areas using affordable methods involving hay bale terracing, something you can try at home for very little money. Learn how to lay hay bales on contour to reduce water run-off, hold nutrients in the landscape and build soil.

This event includes a pot luck lunch – bring along a plate to share, cutlery, crockery and mug).

Please bring along ingredients to make the compost – without these we can’t make one! Bring along animal manures, hay, straw, woodchips or fine green waste, coffee grounds, uncooked fruit and veg scraps… and let’s turn them into soil building magic!
