NRM South and Huon Valley Council Partnership Program

The Huon Valley Council have partnered with NRM South to provide additional land management support to landholders in the Huon Valley. The partnership program runs regular workshops on a range of land management topics, including big picture site planning, specific topics such as soil health, weed management, legal responsibilities for farms and an introductory NRM Services Workshop for new property owners. These workshops are usually free or have a nominal charge and are available to Huon Valley residents.

NRM FACILITATOR SUPPORT AND ADVICE

NRM South(link) works with communities to improve natural resource management in Southern Tasmania. In a co-funding partnership with Huon Valley Council, NRM South, with support from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme, employs a local NRM Facilitator. The Facilitator provides land management advice and support to landholders through events, funding opportunities, workshops and one-on-one property advice.

Small Farm Planning Program
NRM South offers a Small Farm Planning Program comprising five workshops held over several months. These workshops support land owners to improve the management of their property through training, networking and the development of a property management plan. The program is normally run annually, see NRM South’s website or contact the local NRM Facilitator, Tim Ackroyd, directly for more information and how to participate.

Funding Opportunities
NRM South supports landholders through the Naturally Inspired grants program. Grants rounds typically support projects that have a high environmental and/or sustainable farming focus, check the NRM South website, or sign up to the e-news bulletin to be informed of relevant funding opportunities. The NRM Facilitator is available to support you in applying for grants.

NRM Resources and Personalised Advice
NRM South has developed a range of online resources on natural resource management which are available for you to access. Examples include land management guides and factsheets on weed identification and treatment. The NRM Facilitator can put you in touch with local farming and land management groups and experts, and is available to visit your property to provide one-on-one property management advice free of charge.
