To commemorate Australia Day, Council in conjunction with the National Australia Day Council present local Australia Day Awards, Volunteer Recognition Awards and Municipal Certificates of Merit.

The awards recognise the wonderful contribution Huon Valley residents make in the local communities. It recognises personal endeavour and promotes national pride.

The Huon Valley Council Australia Day Awards are presented annually to recognise the achievements and contributions made by residents of the Huon Valley municipality.

Whilst much of the focus is on the Australian of the Year Awards, it is important that we also recognise the contribution Huon Valley residents make at all levels in our community. These people continue to be the backbone of the Huon Valley and should be appropriately recognised.

Awards are presented to the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year

  • Young Citizen of the Year

  • Cultural and Community Builder Award

  • Sport Award

Volunteer Recognition Awards are also presented to the following categories:

  • Voluntary Service Award – in excess of 500 hours
