
BECOME A FAMILY DAY CARE EDUCATOR |
New educators are provided with an extensive training process prior to commencing work and followed up with regular support visits. Currently, no formal qualifications are required, however under new legislation, educators must hold at least a Certificate 111 in Childcare commencing in 2012.

Will my home be suitable?
An educator's home must be safe for children and meet the Department of Education Standards for Home-Based Child Care - Class 1. As an indication, some of the aspects covered include:
Interior - be clean and hygienic with adequate space for play, sleeping and eating. Heaters must be guarded and fire blankets and smoke detectors installed. Accessible glass must comply with Australian Standards. All poisons, dangerous objects and appliances are to be inaccesible to young children, and power point protectors must be fitted to all low, exposed electrical outlets. A First Aid Kit is required and telephone must be connected. Staircases require barricading. Family Day Care Educators are not permitted to smoke in the presence of children in care.
Exterior - (outdoor play area) is required to be securely encolsed by appropraite fencing of at leat 1.2 metres in height with a locked gate. The play space must be hazard free with any outbuildings locked. (All Access to pets must be directly supervised by the Educator), dogs are required to be separate.
