
The Huon Valley Council's Youth Services Unit provides a wide range of programs and events for young people aged 12-25 years. All programs are designed to build the capacity of young prople by:
Council's Youth Services Unit identifies and creates opportunities for young people with diverse interests, networks and experiences. The Unit provides access to support, mentoring and resources that young people need:
The Huon Valley Youth Information Centre is located in Main Street, Huonville (opposite the main Council building) and provides advice and individual assistance to young people and their families.
Information and assistance are provided on a range of issues that young people may encounter, including; family conflict, accommodation, drug and alcohol issues, relationships, sexual health, sexuality and employment.
Opening hours are 2pm-5pm each Monday
Young people and their families can call in any time. However, because the Youth officers offer a range of programs off site there may not always be a Youth officer in the office. The designated hours above each week guarentee that a Youth officer will be available during this time.
The Council maintains three skate parks; Youth Services Unit use these to support seasonal events and competitions. Check out our website or give us a call for upcoming events.
Australia's largest celebration of young people, National Youth Week is held in April each year. Many young people get involved and the Youth Services Unit supports Youth Week by implementing events across the municipal area.
Gearing Up is a learner mentor driver program that is administered by the Council's Youth Services Unit.
The Youth Services Unit offers a variety of inclusive, contemporary programs and events for young people. These include art based workshops, National Youth Week events and family movie nights. Programs and events are designed to enhance life skills, create new opportunities, promote leadership and team work, buid self esteem and increase communication skills.
