About the Access Advisory Committee:

The Council's Access Advisory Committee has been established to develop a strategy that assists the Council with the implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. This will assist to set priorities for works to improve access to parks, streetscapes, council buildings and facilities.

The Committee will develop and monitor a project plan that will result in the production of a draft strategy for Council endorsement.

The roles and functions of the Committee are to:

• Develop recommendations relating to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 for consideration by the Council

• Develop and agree to an appropriate project plan including timelines in line with the Council's budgetary considerations

• Monitor and progress against the project plan

• Ensure the preparation of the draft strategy, making recommendations to the Council on the further development and implementation of the strategy

• The Committee is to ensure that the strategy is consistent with the 2020 Community Plan, the 2010-2015 Strategic plan and applicable annual plans

• Consider and provide advice on any matter referred to it by the Council from time to time
