About the Huon Valley Natural Resource Management (NRM) Advisory Committee

The Huon Valley Natural Resource Management (NRM) Advisory Committee is comprised of between 10-13 persons, all of whom are appointed by Council. Membership of the Advisory Committee includes members from:

The Huon Valley Council
State government agencies and public land managers, eg. Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and the Environment; Forestry Tasmania; and Parks & Wildlife Services
Local industry representatives, eg. farming, tourism and aquaculture
NRM Care Groups and conservation interests
Aboriginal interests
Regional NRM agencies, eg. NRM South

The Committee is responsible for providing advice and specific recommendations to the Council on NRM activities in the Huon Valley.

Roles and functions are guided by the Committee's Terms of Reference, and include:

Coordinating the implementation, ongoing development and periodic review of the Huon Valley NRM Strategy
Providing advice on potential projects that implement components of the NRM strategy
Reviewing other NRM project proposals from the Huon Valley
Monitoring the delivery of externally funded projects that require a coordinated effort from various stakeholders
Advising the Council on future policy, management issues, project opportunities and development proposals
Liaising with the regional NRM organisations and providing input into reviews of the regional strategy and investment plans
Advising on promotional and education programs and events
Providing an NRM information link between State and regional agencies, local industry and community groups within the Huon Valley.

NRM Committee seeks a new member

The Huon Valley Council is seeking a tourism sector representative for the Huon Valley NRM Advisory Committee. The Council is now seeking expressions of interest from individuals who are keen to progress NRM issues in the local community.
