Natural Resource Management Advisory Committee

The committee provides NRM advice to Council and acts as a conduit to broader NRM activity within the municipal area. Minutes of these meetings can be found here. The roles and functions of the committee are:

  • Providing an opportunity to exchange information between Council, State and regional agencies, local industry and community representatives within the Huon Valley.
  • Providing a governance structure for the assessment and delivery of Council’s Care group grant program.
  • advising on the implementation, ongoing development and periodic review of the Huon Valley Council NRM Strategy.
  • Advising future policy, management issues, project opportunities and development proposals relevant to NRM and the Huon Valley Council.
  • Steering the delivery of externally funded projects that require a coordinated effort from various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrating established support for natural resource management in the Huon Valley.


The committee is comprised of representatives from:

  • The Huon Valley Council
  • State government agencies – Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and the Environment; and Parks and Wildlife Services
  • Key land managers – Forestry Tasmania
  • Regional Natural Resource Management body – NRM South
  • Local industry representatives – agriculture, forestry, tourism and aquaculture
  • Local Aboriginal community representative – South East Tasmania Aboriginal Corporation
  • Local environmental volunteer groups and community representatives.
